Working with Morrison Advocacy

As a special education teacher and administrator for over two decades, I have the experience to help you create a collaborative partnership with your child’s team and the school district. Each aspect of special education involves a process, and each process is governed by rules and regulations. I can help families navigate the laws and the processes by which schools implement the legislation. I’m passionate about students reaching their highest level of independence so they can thrive not only in school but as an adult. The services we provide will help guide them toward that future and give you the confidence to navigate the school system and participate in sharing your child’s education.
File Review
My goal with a file review is to help parents interpret reports and evaluations and explain their implications. When reviewing the file, I'll also develop an understanding of your child and their areas of strength, weakness, and needs moving forward. Once I review your child's cumulative and comprehensive documents, I’ll provide useful feedback, answer any questions you may have, and lay out suggestions for the next steps so you can easily move forward.
504 Plan Development
In order for your child to access the curriculum, we need to level the playing field sometimes. Whatever their specific area of need is, medical, mental health, physical, etc., we need to make sure your child’s unique needs are identified and documented. I’ll review your child’s 504 plan to verify that the required accommodations are included. We'll collaborate and negotiate until your child’s 504 meets their unique needs.
IEP Development
In order for your child to make progress and improve their skills, their unique needs have to be identified and documented. Together we'll review their IEP to make sure that all necessary components are included, measurable, and comprehensive. We'll go through each section of the IEP to ensure that you have a true understanding of the document, its purpose, and how your child's progress will be monitored.

IEP and 504 Meetings
School-based meetings can be overwhelming for parents, and adding IEP and 504 processes and regulations can certainly add a level of complexity and stress. I’m here to help you with that process and offer advice and assistance to make the meetings easier to navigate and negotiate. I’ll happily accompany you to any of your child’s meetings, including initial eligibility, annual review, re-evaluation, and progress meetings, to make sure that you’re comfortable with the process and that your voice is heard. Together, we’ll ensure your child has access to and makes progress in their classroom and the whole school environment.
“I’m committed to ensuring you build a solid foundation for your child that will lead them to an independent future.”
